The lecture given by Dr Cihan YAZGI offers the students a panorama of American Literature from Native American stories of creation to the 1950s. It traces three recurring themes–namely, 'Nature and Environment’, 'Race and Identity’ and 'The American Dream’–by way of referring to and quoting from canonical works of literature in order to show how, by literature from different periods, these prominent themes are explored in different ways, from contradictory/complementary points of view, and to diverse ends. The underlying aim is to show how following central themes will help students to make better sense of the development of a literature while taking survey classes.”
