Studies at the Faculty of Philology go beyond advanced language learning. In addition to acquiring language skills in Polish, English, German, Russian, and French at C1 level, students also have the opportunity to learn a second language at B2 level. These include Spanish, Italian, German, Chinese, or Polish as a foreign language, depending on the programme. Studying at the Faculty of Philology is also a chance to develop passions for which a given language is an important foundation. By choosing one of the first-cycle degree programmes, students can broaden their knowledge in linguistics, literature, video games, new media, law, and economics. This comprehensive knowledge equips students with the competencies to work as a translator, editor, cultural animator, or PR specialist. Second-cycle studies serve as a natural continuation of a student’s chosen path. They culminate in a perfect command of foreign languages, documented by achieving C2 level, and provide professional preparation for numerous career roles. In second-cycle programmes, students have the opportunity to obtain full teaching qualifications. Under the expert guidance of experienced academic staff, students refine their research skills. Writing a Master’s thesis can serve as the first step toward doctoral studies and a future academic career. Scientific conferences and training sessions organized by the Faculty of Philology are also an excellent opportunity to gain valuable research experience. An additional element of the study experience is the international and multicultural atmosphere. Admission to the programme is open to graduates of at least first-cycle degree programmes, with no additional restrictions, who are primarily interested in developing their skills in the field of artistic creation and functional creative writing (studies are conducted in Polish).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The programme is intended for those who wish to pursue careers related to text production, especially literary and journalistic writing (e.g. journalist, columnist, cultural department staff in libraries, museums, and third-sector organisations, etc.).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During the studies, graduates acquire specialised knowledge in linguistics, literary studies, and cultural studies. They develop practical communication skills in their native language, learn the basic techniques and methods of creating functional texts, and are prepared to organise cultural events such as author meetings, festivals, competitions, and similar initiatives.<\/p>\n

The aim of the programme is to embed game studies elements and knowledge about digital environments within a broader linguistic and cultural studies context. The study programme assumes the achievement of learning outcomes in the field of knowledge about digital space and culture as a platform for communication.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In terms of skills, the programme focuses primarily on communication competences, including marketing and public relations (PR). A strong emphasis is placed on navigating and managing social media platforms.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Social competences primarily concern the ability to recognise the role of idea exchange and linguistic skills in the contemporary world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Graduates of the programme acquire competences as digital marketing professionals, as well as specialists in social media communication and community management. The programme provides graduates with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for professionals dealing with the editing of texts, typesetting, or graphic processing of publications. Graduates acquire extensive knowledge in several areas, including: the principles of text editing and technical preparation using modern software, copyright and publishing law, graphic design, publishing market mechanisms and marketing, and the communication and function of information in cyberspace. Education is conducted in the following elective areas: 1. Publishing Management \u2013 prepares students to work as publishing house managers and organizers; allows for establishing their own publishing and proofreading offices. 2. Conducted in English, this programme prepares students to face the challenges of a highly competitive labor market in an increasingly global society. It offers an integrated approach to public communication in politics, culture, society, management, business, and technology. Students expand their practical English language skills to C1 level; simultaneously, all students develop a second foreign language to B2 level. Core courses, including public communication and public relations, cultural and media studies, persuasion and rhetoric, and intercultural communication, develop and broaden the knowledge and skills required in analyzing various communicative situations, managing information, and creating effective messages across different media. Full-time and part-time second-cycle degree programme, general academic profile<\/strong><\/p>\n

This programme, conducted in English, prepares students to teach English as a foreign language. In addition to developing practical language skills at C2 proficiency level, students deepen their academic knowledge in applied linguistics, foreign language teaching methodology, psychology, and pedagogy. Over three semesters, they complete a total of 150 hours of teaching practice. They graduate with general preparation for teaching English to all age groups and in all types of schools, and with qualifications entitling them to teach English in state schools at the second (primary school) and third (secondary school) educational stages, in line with Ministry of Education guidelines. A student of Polish philology acquires philological knowledge and skills in the history of Polish literature with elements of world literature, contemporary literature, poetics, literary theory, and both modern and historical linguistics.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Further specialisation and in-depth knowledge are provided through elective courses chosen by the student from those offered by the Institute of Literary Studies and the Institute of Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology, as well as other faculties of the University of Opole.<\/p>\n

Bachelor\u2019s degree studies (3-year full-time programme) are offered at undergraduate level within the following optional study areas:<\/p>\n

Graduates are prepared for work in the cultural media sector (e.g. journalist, literary critic, cultural events organiser, or staff member in cultural departments of local government institutions and cultural organisations). The programme develops knowledge and skills in the interrelations between different fields of the humanities and art forms (such as connections between literature, theatre, film, and visual arts). It also provides knowledge in aesthetics and literary criticism, as well as practical experience in organising artistic events. In the area of modern arts, students also learn how to create and administer websites.<\/p>\n

Teaching Polish as a foreign language (NEW!)<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Do you dream of working with people from different cultures? Do you want to teach Polish to foreigners, children, and adults? This module is for you!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The programme is designed in line with current labour market needs. After graduation, you can work in private language schools, cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, and other institutions supporting migrant integration. Additionally, at the second-cycle level, you can obtain teaching qualifications enabling you to work in public schools of all types.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This new educational path prepares you for the role of a teacher of Polish as a foreign language (JPJO). It is an intensive, modern, and interdisciplinary programme combining theory with practice (including teaching internships). Full-time first-cycle degree programme, practical profile<\/strong><\/p>\n

The programme provides education in the knowledge and skills related to creating and analyzing games. Students learn game creation \u2013 their design, programming, and the creation of graphic and textual content. They develop the ability to analyze games as cultural texts and as products on the publishing market, and practical competencies related to the creative and publishing process in the video, board, role-playing (RPG), wargaming, card, and other game markets. Graduates acquire knowledge in creating programmes, coding in various languages, and designing graphic content. The programme also includes 960 hours of internships, and a large portion of the classes is conducted in a workshop format. The programme develops competencies in the German language, leading to C1 level in the first-cycle and C2 in the second-cycle. Students acquire a general humanities education, deepen their knowledge of the German language, realities, culture, and history of German-speaking countries, and also gain competencies oriented towards a specific profession: e.g., translator, customer service specialist for German-speaking clients, or teacher. In the first-cycle programme, students choose from the following modules: 1. Translation Studies \u2013 a module of translation courses, particularly preparing for the profession of translator; students acquire practical skills in translating general, literary, and specialized texts, written and oral translations (simultaneous and consecutive). 2. Deutsch in Recht und Wirtschaft (German in Law and Economics) \u2013 a module enabling the acquisition of basic knowledge in selected topics from the field of law and economics as well as practical knowledge of German in specialist registers: legal and economic. In the second-cycle programme, students choose either module 1. Linguistik, Translatorik, Interkulturelle Kommunikation (Linguistics, Translation Studies, Intercultural Communication) or module 2. Fachsprachen, Medien, Kommunikation (Specialized Languages, Media, and Communication). Full-time first-cycle degree programme, practical profile<\/strong><\/p>\n

This innovative and nationally pioneering programme combines traditional academic courses with a wide range of practical exercises, seminars, and professional internships conducted in tourism industry environments outside the University. The first three semesters are divided into two parts: academic (10 weeks of classes at the University) and practical (the remainder of the semester). During these semesters, students complete a total of 450 hours of professional internships. In semester 4, students undergo a traineeship (480 hours total) in hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, or administrative services in selected tourism enterprises. In semesters 5 and 6, students work on their practical diploma theses. Students expand their practical English language skills to C1 level; simultaneously, all students develop a second foreign language at B2 level.     France is a significant foreign investor in Poland in areas such as industry, energy transition, digitalisation, construction, financial services, technical services, logistics, and insurance.     The programme is addressed to international students who are interested in acquiring fluent command of Polish (at C1 level) and a good command of German (at B2 level). Students are introduced to Polish and German country studies (geography, history, culture, customs). In the first-cycle programme, students choose from two modules that allow them to learn specialist language: 1. Polish and German in Business or 2. Polish and German in Tourism. The opportunity to participate in a vibrant student movement and internships in various institutions provide experience needed for future professional work. Graduates are prepared to organize work, make independent decisions, competently serve clients, and handle institutional matters in both, Polish and German.         The Speech Therapy programme trains specialists and prepares them for work in a variety of institutions and environments, including speech therapy clinics, speech and language therapy centres, hospitals, social welfare centres, and educational institutions. The aim of the programme is to provide both theoretical and practical preparation for preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic work concerning speech and communication disorders within general speech therapy, in both children and adults.<\/p>\n

        <\/p>\n

        The programme includes 3,660 hours of lectures, workshops, and seminars organised into four blocks: basic subjects; field-specific speech therapy subjects; linguistics-related subjects; elective courses; teacher-training module courses; and other compulsory subjects (see study plan). Graduates are fully prepared to work as qualified speech therapists.<\/p>\n

        Speech therapy is currently a modern and highly interdisciplinary field with a complex applied character, integrating three main perspectives: linguistic, medical, and social.<\/p>\n
